Without electricity it is impossible to live these days. I don't think anyone would argue with such a thesis. Unfortunately, sometimes there are power failures. This can paralyze the functioning of not only a home office or a large business, but even an entire city. To the rescue come power generators. However, it is worth choosing those that will provide us with maximum trouble-free operation, convenience and safety. Certainly, one of the most important features that a generator set should have must be a self-activating reserve power system, or in short, ATS. What is it and why is it so important?
Do you work intensively at home? Or are you a manager in a large manufacturing company, where proper power supply is essential 24 hours a day? Surely in such a situation you need to protect yourself against failures or faults that may occur either at the power supplier or in the internal power grid. The best option will be to choose diesel-powered generators offered in our online store. However, additional safety features will be key. When buying, pay attention to whether the unit has an ATS. This is a system of automatic reserve switching. In other words, thanks to this technological solution,
the diesel genset in a situation where there is an emergency and a power outage will turn on by itself. In practice, this can be illustrated by a simple example. While working on the computer, our laptop will not turn off when there is a power outage. It will continue to work. Only the source of power supply will change.
How does the EMS work in stationary generators?
How specifically does such a system work? Is its response really instantaneous? It turns out that it is. Such technologies guarantee us continuity of power supply when there is an inadequate operation of the basic system or a power grid failure. The ATS (also known as ATS) is coupled to the generator and will respond to even a minimal power outage. This modern technology is based on an integrated controller that constantly monitors the parameters of the power grid. Thus, it will check:
- phase voltage,
- phase-to-phase voltage,
- frequency of the network.
So, in practice, we will have an emergency situation when just one of the mentioned parameters deviates from the norm. This could be, for example, the absence of voltage. It is enough that it disappears only in one phase, and the procedure for switching on the genset engine will already begin. Then, when the operating parameters, that is, the voltage and frequency of the generator voltage reach the appropriate level, then the automatic reserve switching system switches the contactors. In parallel, during the operation of the generator set, the ATS will also continuously monitor whether the line voltage has reappeared. When it is restored, the reverse procedure is initiated, i.e. switching to mains power. Most often, such solutions are used in
stationary generators wherever there is a high probability and risk of power shortages. These technologies will be perfect for farms, but also for construction sites, garages or catering establishments. It's also an alternative to complex and expensive security solutions. It's a simple circuit that monitors for power outages. The device will check that the main power supply is working again. Thus, the ATS is programmed in such a way that it does not cause the unit to be constantly switched on. It is perfect when, for various reasons, power outages are temporary - even a few seconds. It is also important that after returning to the mains supply, the automatic reserve switching system will still control the operation of the genset for a few seconds. This is a safeguard in case the power outage occurs again. Thanks to automatic start, we gain not only self-sufficiency and independence, but also safety and convenience.
Generator set for the home with protection of the ATS
Of course, generators that will be located on a residential property can also have SZR protection. This always increases the comfort of use and ensures that we are not dependent on random factors. These types of
generators, do not require maintenance. So we can rest assured - when the power goes out at home, our loved ones will not be forced to manually start the equipment. This is also a good solution when, for example, we are away for a little longer, but we have appliances in our apartment that need to be powered continuously. Such a genset is simply more economical, too. The cost of its operation is only about PLN 5 per hour. There is a reason why they are so popular. Of course, when buying
a generator for the house, we must also opt for a three-phase or single-phase one. In homes, the latter will be the most popular, due to the lower risk of uneven loading. A single-phase generator reduces the possibility of failure of the entire unit. It also guarantees a much longer service life for the entire generator.
As you can see, choosing a generator yourself is not an easy task. It is best to rely on professionals who will analyze our needs and match the device that will work best for our business or home. As a company with many years of experience, we know that comprehensive service is important for our customers. Therefore, our commitment is not limited to the sales stage only. We offer installation of the device and configuration of settings. Our team of experts will be happy to answer any questions, present the possibilities and advantages of each device. The use of a generator set with protection of the ATS is simply a great convenience and safety of our equipment. It is worth choosing devices with such a system if we prefer to "blow on the cold" or, for various reasons, do not want to interfere with the functioning of the device ourselves. After all, we may not know how the emergency power supply is activated. This is a very modern solution and, above all, guarantees us greater energy security. It will work well for small businesses that require power around the clock. It's also an ideal solution when we go on an extended vacation and need to leave some devices on.
If a generator set, then only with AVR
As a manufacturer and distributor of generators, we offer devices equipped
only with high-end voltage regulators. We know how important for you is
the safety of consumers powered by the generator. AVR guarantees stable
operation of electronic devices and their protection from damage. Failure
of a heat pump, computer or other equipment is not only a considerable
cost, but also a risk of data loss. That's why every Proton generator has
a suitable AVR voltage regulator.
